Back in 1994, I guess we were being musically (and otherwise) nostalgic what with the likes of the Forrest Gump soundtrack - which had a focus on music of 60s-70s.
The idea of having another Woodstock was put into motion to commemorate the original music festival held in 1969. The 1994 edition was promoted as 'two more days of peace and music'.
My main reason for making this note is that I recall a journalist of the time asking one of the bands that attended the original Woodstock, what they thought about having another "new" Woodstock.
There was some general debate about how creating this new festival would somehow take away from the importance/meaning of the original.
The artist who attended the original (and also was playing at the revival festival) said: I think its great to bring back- its good fun! BUT- I think the young people of today should create their own NEW things that are important and meaningful to them. And not look to what us oldies did back in our time.
So I've always thought this is something interesting to think on. Do things that are unique and exciting for your generation- what worked in the past isn't always what is appropriate for the 'now'. At the same time, I do appreciate and think there is place for reminiscing and nostalgia!
